About Me.
Hi, I'm Kylie Hansell, a textile design student at NC State University with a passion for creating thoughtful designs through color, pattern, texture, and material.
My design process is heavily inspired by the relationship between textiles and the spaces they inhabit. Nature and experiences are a leading inspiration for my work. I love exploring how materials, finishes, and color can transform an environment and create a specific feeling. My work ranges from textile and surface design to large-scale installations and interior-focused projects.
Throughout my studies, I've had opportunities to collaborate with designers, professors, and other artists on both academic and professional projects. One experience that particularly shaped my approach was contributing to a large-scale textile installation using donated recycled saris for the Jaipur Literature Festival.
I am especially interested in opportunities where I can continue developing my skills, collaborate with other creators, and explore how textiles can be used to make spaces and experiences more meaningful.
Since high school, I have had the opportunity to work with my parents to help them with house-flipping and fully furnished short-term rental projects. I have always had an interest in design and they have always encouraged me to help them with these projects. Seeing all the behind-the-scenes work of these ventures helped build my passion for both interior and textile design.

Beyond Design
While textile design is Kylie’s passion, she enjoys staying involved in her community and exploring a variety of interests outside the studio. She is a recipient of the North Carolina Textile Foundation Scholarship, a prestigious merit-based award recognizing academic achievement, leadership, and outstanding performance, and serves as an ambassador for the Wilson College of Textiles at NC State. Beyond campus, Kylie is an assistant volleyball coach at Triangle Day School and an active member of CHAARG, a women’s wellness and fitness organization, where she served as an Event Coordinator during her sophomore year. She also enjoys giving back through community service, serving as a Litter Leader for Keep Durham Beautiful and having trained a service dog for a family member. In addition, she has experience working as a house manager. These experiences reflect her commitment to leadership, community involvement, and personal growth both inside and outside of her design career.
